What’s New?

SUMMER IS . . .

The clothes we wear, the meals we eat, the extra hours of sunshine--everything about summer seems, well, lighter, compared to the rest of the year. Why not lighten up your reading too, with an entertaining summer novel? Enjoy an old favorite or take a look at our latest releases, including new books by Daniel Silva, James Lee Burke, Nora Roberts, Iris Johansen, Steve Martini, Luanne Rice, and Ridley Pearson. You’ll find more suggestions for easy summer reading plus a list of debut novels posted on our library bulletin board this month.

Monthly Focus - Home Cooking

Can’t boil water? Well, there’s no need to try, because summer meals are meant to be cool and easy—just toss a salad, put together a sandwich, or fire up the grill to keep mealtimes simple yet satisfying. Check out our Monthly Focus shelves for books and magazines on summer entertaining and easy food prep for those blistering hot days still to come.

Introducing OverDrive!

For patrons who enjoy the convenience of listening to books on cassette, CD, and playaway, the newest phase of audio-to-go is here: downloadable audio books.
The digital versions of audio books may be downloaded through the internet and played on your desktop or laptop computer. You can also transfer your selections to a wide range of portable devices. iPod and Mac, however, do not currently support WMA (Windows Media Audio) files.

    OverDrive features:
  • check-out of up to 5 audio books at one time
  • 14-day loan period
  • holds placement
  • no renewals, but titles may be checked out again by reactivating the license
  • list of compatible digital devices
You will need your library card number and PIN number (usually the last four digits of your phone number) to set up an account and install the free OverDrive Media console software at www.listennjnw.org. Explore this easy-to-use site or ask a staff member for assistance. Information will also be available through the M.A.I.N. website. OverDrive website

PLAYAWAY - The Newest Way to Curl up with a Great Book!

We have now begun a collection of audio books in a new format called "playaway".

So what is Playaway?
Playaway is the newest format of audio, combining a wide variety of content with an easy-to-use player all in one small unit. When you receive your Playaway, all you have to do is press play to start listening immediately – there is no need for a separate player, and it comes with earbuds and a battery to make it play.
Playaway is the most simple and immediate way to enjoy music and audiobooks. Its portability allows users to enjoy their favorite authors and titles on-the-go, whenever and wherever.

What makes Playaway unique?

  • Playaway is the easiest way to listen to a book or music – the only thing you need to do is press play!
  • Each Playaway contains an entire book or music compilation, regardless of length (up to 80 hours!).
  • A Playaway weighs only 2 ounces and can easily fit in a pocket for ultimate portability and multitasking.
  • They come with an automatic bookmark function that remembers where you left off.
  • Playaways have a universal headphone jack that can be used with a number of mobility accessories including portable speakers, FM transmitters, and audio cables to listen in virtually any environment.
If you don’t have your own ear buds, the library is selling them for $1.00.
For more information, visit the Playaway website. Playaways are located on the audio book shelves. Try one—and let us know what you think!
